MR. LUNT
Subject Matter - Students will be introduced to the basic skills of electronic image capture, manipulation and output. THis will included scanning, scaling, color adjustment, selection and image manipulation, collage through layering, combining images with text, and the use of filters. In addition, basic compositin, design, and color theory from an aesthetic point of view will be stressed. Weekly art history ini-lectures will give the students an overview of western and non-western art from acient times to the present. The class will be project-based, and students will produce images that are aesthetically pleasing, and connect with the core curriculum. In addition, students will critique vaius medium for point of view, demographic targeting, and persuasive power.

Grading - All assignments will be graded on a point scale. Point to letter grade transition is as follows:
100-90 Points = A | 89-80 Points = B | 79-70 Points = C | 69-55 Points = D | Bellow 55 Points = FAIL
Grades for each grading period will be arrived at by calculating the percentage average of earned points out of total points possible. This means missed assigments can bring a grade down quickly. The student is expected to complete ALL assignments.

ASSIGNMENTS
1. NOTEBOOK - Each student shall be responsible for bringing every day a hard bound notebook with paper and a section assigned to the class. Students will be responsible for copying down all vocabulary, art notes, lab assignments, and any other material requested by the teacher. Every four weeks, students will produce an electronic art history portfolio of works studied in the class.
2. Vocabulary - Students will begin each Moday by copying down assigned vocabulary words and their definitions in preparation for a weekly vocabulary quiz each friday.
3. Projects - Projects will be produced by using Photoshop in the single semester class, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator in the year-long class. Individual projects will be:

1. Learing fiels management through nesting many folders.
2. Thouching up and color correcting damaged family photos.
3. Creating color wheel with primary , secondary, and intermediate colors.
4. Learning file size compression by analyzing JPG vs. Photoshoip file size.
5. Creating a fictional movie promotional "one sheet" incomporating a photo of the student with images of celebraties and other images.
6.Creating a fictious product and designing its logo, bissiness, cards, letter heads, and advertisement, and a multimedia presentation based on these elements (this project will be executed only in the one-year long class).

5. READING JOURNALS - On the second meeting of each week, students will be expected to turn in their weekly reading journals at the beggining of the period. Students will read a two page ( not including picture) newspaper, magazines, or internet artical appropriate for school. Extra credit will be awarded for selections relating to art for computer technology. Studen t then will write one page paragraph summarizing the article, and a one half paragraph commenting on the article. This journal will not be graded for grammer etc., and will be awarded for full credit as long as the above criteria are met.
6. HOMEWORK - Periodic homw work assignmets will be given beyond the weekly standing assignmets.When homework is due, it will only be accepted in the homework box, AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PERIOD!!!!!. Homework turned in after the homework has been collected will be considered late.
7. LATE WORK - Late work will be accepted, but not for full credit. Assignmets which are one day late will lose 30% credit. Assignmest turned in two days late, will lose 40% credit. NO late work will bw accepted after two days. Student with a excused absents for the day of the assignment will be allowed to make the work up with no " late fees". Student with unexcuesed absents will no t be able to make up the assignments at all.
8. QUIZZIS - Weekly vocabulary quizzes willl be given on the last class meeting of each week and will be worth 100 points.
9. PRESENTATIONS AND CRITIQUES - A major component of this course is a speaking segment where students present projects, or milestones toward the completion of projectys, and open their work to the class.

  • Learn the elements of art and principles of design through an introduction to Photoshop and other software programs

  • Learn to retouch images by manipulating color and value
  • Apply art criticism (description, analysis, interpretation, and judgment) to all work as they make presentations
  • Learn art history emphasizing historical and contemporary perspectives
  • Respect the value and uniqueness of original ideas
  • Work effectively and efficiently in a group setting
  • Use the Internet for art history research. Copyright issues are known
  • Explore options for employment in digital art fields
  • Utilize page layout software to produce brochures, business cards, resumes, advertisements, and web pages
