What is required?
LBUSD Service Learning Initiative: Beginning with the Class of 2007, all students must complete 40 hours of Service Learning/ Community service to fulfill the high school graduation requirement. Students have the choice of doing several projects over their high school tenure or they can do all 40 hours with one project. (New students who enter LBUSD schools after the freshman year will be prorated at 10 hours a year. Therefore entering sophmores will be responsible for 30 Service Learning hours, juniors will need 20 hours and seniors 10 hours.) All hours transfer from one LBUSD high school to another.

There is a Service Learning Coach at every high school. Students can check the district website, the school website or the Career Center for that person's schedule.

Anyone can visit the district website for contact information. To access the Service Learning website go to www.lbusd.k12.ca.us and click on the 's' for service learning. You will find valuable information for student, parents, teachers and agencies.

You will find a list of agencies that are partnering with the district and that offer student experiences.

Agency forms can be downloaded and submitted by groups who use volunteers and have positions appropriate for teens.
